Mahaswetha Ramakrishna is a rising junior at Pittsford Sutherland High School. She began her Bharatanatyam journey at the age of eight under the guidance of her Guru, Smt. Parvatha Chidambaram, with whom she has trained for the past eight years. Throughout this journey, Bharatanatyam has instilled in her the values of discipline, dedication, perseverance, and grace. Through its intricate technique, expressive abhinaya, and rhythmic precision, she has developed a deep appreciation for the harmony of movement, music, storytelling, and cultural heritage.
Mahaswetha's passion for Indian classical arts extends beyond dance. She has studied Carnatic vocal music for the past five years under the guidance of Guru Smt. Veena Ganeshan, enriching her understanding of the musical foundation that complements Bharatanatyam. She is also a graduate of Balvihar HTOR, where she deepened her knowledge of Hindu scriptures, values, and traditions. Additionally, she has had the privilege of learning the fundamentals of Vedic philosophy from Thiru. Shashikanth Bhargava.
Outside the world of classical arts, Mahaswetha learned piano under the guidance of Mrs. Sofya and has learned to play the violin. She has been formally learning her mother tongue Tamil for the past eight years. She also was involved in the Pittsford Sutherland High School field hockey team. She is also active in her community, volunteering with Balvihar, the local fire department, and her school's Interact Club. To relax, she likes to spend time with friends, watch movies and draw. She wants to keep Bharatanatyam a part of her life forever and continue sharing her love for this art form through performing.
